Salpeterkrans offers accommodation in four luxury chalets, all within easy walking distance from the Klip River.
Klip River Lodge is the most isolated of the lodges and could very easily be considered the flagship of the accommodation on the farm. It is in the upper reaches of the river where the water tumbles gently over the boulders in the rocky pools.
The lodge has three bedrooms and each one has an en-suite bathroom to ensure the privacy of the occupants.
A seventh bed could be provided on request.
Stone Cottage is, as its name denotes, built of stone and used to be an old farm cottage. It also boasts three bedrooms, one of which is en suite and a second bathroom facility.
This cottage is some 500 m from the river, which is accessible via well defined path through the grassy valley.
Blue Crane and Malachite cottages are identical units, some 500 m apart but hidden from one another. Both are only about 50 m from the river, with lovely deep pools close by. The pool below Malachite is a pleasure to behold from the large stoep while the sun rises over the hills in the east (That is, if you are not on the water waiting for the morning rise!).
All the cottages are fully equipped with cutlery and crockery, linen and extra linen for the very cold winter nights. All have DSTV, but you need to bring your own smart card.
An essential element of one's stay on the Highveld is a manner of keeping warm. The cottages at Salpeterkrans are all equipped with efficient fireplaces and lots of firewood. And in summer, there is nothing better than to view the spectacular scenery from the covered stoep, with your favourite beverage in hand.
Salpeterkrans now also offer a chef‘s service, through which meals can be ordered at very reasonable rates. Wilna is the chef, and she haa a wide variety of meals to choos from. These meals must be ordere well in advance, since, as she says: "there is no supermarket around the corner".
Meals include fare such as lasagne, bobotie, ox tail, smoked rib, chicken pie, etc. Please enquire about the meals and prices when making your booking. The only limitation is that only one dish is prepared for each lodge, when lasagne is ordered, everyone gets lasagne.
